Hike Leader—”Tiny Dancer” Katina Collins

While writing my memoir, about Houston Women's Hiking and my life, I could not help but focus on the many women who have come up in my life who have been influential, inspirational, and kept me going. Katina Collins is one of those. Her story about hiking could be her own book.
You never know who you can influence by your words and deeds. As I wrote in "One Foot In Front of The Other: Art, Hiking, and Healing"
Excerpt from the book
LIFE HAPPENS
Things happen in life, and as a regular hiker, I have found hikers express these things in conversations on the trails and in campsites. I have loved and learned through women who have suffered the death of a spouse, the death of a child, and many other losses. There have been women who, through the other women, have had a helping hand as they navigated the rocky paths, trying to find their foothold in courage to get past the voices in their head that said they were too weak or too old or unlovable, or too sick or too whatever. Just like on a trail, women have come up in front of them, simply stating the navigation they took to hike such terrain and, at times, turning to lend a hand or a hiking pole. Women healed want to help other women navigate the trail and life. To reach the pinnacle and to move to a more complete and fulfilled life, all the way, they are learning that it is not only the destination, but when you are in the right company and the right mindset, it is the journey that is so stinking exciting. Through the trail, they learn to find the strength, to find themselves and claim what is right in life.
I've been so eager to connect with these amazing women and share their inspiration and passion! While it takes a bit of time to create these videos, In between sculpting, hiking, gardening, and writing three new books, I'll be making more soon, so keep an eye out!
In the meantime, I'm excited to invite you to join me for some cozy private sessions in my home/studio to chat about the book. We'll meet on the last Thursday of the month for the next three months. If you're interested, fill out the Facebook event form! It might not be a traditional "Fireside Chat" since it's getting pretty warm here in Texas, but I guarantee we'll have a great time visiting and sharing stories. I can't wait to see you!

Join us for the fireside chat last Thursday of the month beginning in May. Check the Facebook Event
